Why do these shows suck?

I think it goes a bit deeper than bad writing or greedy studio execs

We don't know what stories are or where they come from. We don't know why Frank Herbert writes a weird scifi story in the 60s and why we're still thinking about sandworms and dudes in rubber suits 60 years later.
