I hate awards

There's no good reason to give books awards. Everyone's reading paths are very different. The idea there's a "best book" in a given year is clearly nonsense.

But there are plenty of bad reasons to give awards. Writers have egos, we liked to be stroked.

And people LOVE the drama of an award. They make for better stories than the books.
